The Lake
The lakes of Ranthambhore · April to June 2026
Everyone comes to Ranthambhore for tigers, and most mornings the tigers are somewhere else. The lakes below the fort are never empty. In the dry months everything in the forest has to come to them, and if you stop looking for stripes there is more happening on the shore than you can photograph.
These frames are from four mornings and one evening between April and June: storks and stilts in the shallows, langur infants fighting on the mud, a darter throwing its fish, a mugger that did not move in all the time we watched it, and the old hunting lodge of Jogi Mahal across the water.
