Chital
Spotted deer · Ranthambhore · April to June 2026
Chital are the animal you stop seeing. There are thousands of them, they are in the background of every tiger picture, and most cameras stay in the lap when the jeep passes a herd. I have started pointing mine at them.
Most of these were made in six minutes on the morning of 2 June: a young stag and a fawn touching noses in the grass at 6:46, and at 6:51 a doe standing against the dark with the first sun behind her, lit only along her outline.
